Day-by-Day Itinerary

D1 Fort Portal – Nyakalengija (Trailhead) – Sine Hut (2,600m)

Drive from Fort Portal to Nyakalengija village at the park boundary. Begin trekking through cultivated land into montane forest. Arrive Sine Hut for dinner and overnight.

Trek through dense montane forest alongside the Mubuku River. Spectacular forest birds and chance of forest elephant. Arrive Nyabitaba for night.

Cross the Bujuku River and ascend steeply through heather and moorland. First views of the snow-capped peaks. John Matte Hut tonight.

Trek through surreal giant senecio and lobelia forests. Arrive Bujuku Hut in the heart of the mountains with Margherita Peak dominating the skyline.

Acclimatisation day — climb to Scott Elliot Pass for stunning views. Return to Bujuku for overnight.

Early start for the technical summit ascent via Elena Hut and the glaciers. Summit Margherita Peak with views across Uganda and DRC. Descend to Kitandara Hut.

Long descent day through the spectacular Bujuku Valley and back down through montane forest.

Final descent back to the trailhead. Transfer to Fort Portal for hot shower and celebration dinner. Certificates awarded.
